The uniquely designed Welsh Baton for the King’s Baton Relay has today been officially revealed, ahead of its journey across Wales from the 19th to 24th June.
Designed by renowned Welsh artist Nathan Wyburn, the baton is a bold and creative celebration of Welsh identity, culture and sporting pride. Known for his unconventional artistic techniques and striking visual storytelling, Nathan has created a baton that is both meaningful and memorable, reflecting the spirit of Team Wales and the communities it represents.
The baton has been brought to life in collaboration with Dragon Signs, whose craftsmanship has ensured Nathan’s vision has been transformed into a striking and functional piece ready to travel the nation.
Rebecca Edwards-Symmons, Chief Executive of Commonwealth Games Wales, said:
“We are incredibly proud to unveil our Welsh Baton, a truly special symbol of our nation’s journey to the Commonwealth Games. Nathan has created something that captures the creativity, passion and pride of Wales, and we are grateful to Dragon Designs for bringing that vision to life with such care and expertise.
The King’s Baton Relay is a powerful opportunity to connect with communities across Wales, celebrate our athletes and build excitement ahead of the Games. We cannot wait to see the baton inspire people as it travels the length and breadth of the country.”
Nathan Wyburn, Welsh pop culture artist added:
“I’m extremely honoured to have been chosen to represent my country, and design the artwork for The King’s Baton. Given that our chosen word for Wales was ‘Community’ it seemed right that I base the idea around our people, our athletes! Collaged together with hundreds of photos, to make up our vibrant and best flag in the world. The colours are bold and energetic, and it truly screams WALES. Working with Dragon Signs to wrap the wooden baton was also a joy, they’re brilliant at what they do and really saw my vision for how the artwork would love around every side of the design.
Nathan Black, Commercial Director of Dragon Signs:
“We’re really proud to have been part of this project for Team Wales as they head to the Commonwealth Games. The design tells such a special story and really captures the community spirit and pride that makes Wales what it is. Our wrapping team loved being involved in bringing the baton to life, and we can’t wait to see it carried by the incredible Welsh athletes on the world stage.”
The King’s Baton Relay began its global journey at Buckingham Palace on 10th March 2025 and has travelled through Commonwealth nations and territories ahead of the Opening Ceremony this summer. This year marks a unique approach, with each nation designing its own baton, showcasing individual identity and creativity.
As it travels across Wales, the baton will visit communities, landmarks and events, celebrating Welsh heritage and inspiring the next generation of athletes.
The Commonwealth Games begin on 23rd July, where the baton will take its place at the Opening Ceremony.
