The design marks the culmination of a unique collaboration between Team Wales, Specialist Sports – the official distributor of adidas Teamwear across the UK and Ireland – and Cardiff Met’s School of Art and Design, offering students the opportunity to work on a live industry brief to create the kit that will be worn by athletes on the international stage.

Jake Rowley, the winning designer from Wrexham, drew inspiration from Welsh heritage and iconic symbolism, incorporating the historic dragons carved around the clock inside Cardiff’s Coal Exchange to create a bold and distinctive dragon motif featured across the kit.

Speaking about his design, Jake said:
“It’s a real honour to have an opportunity like this to take part in representing Wales. This country’s culture and history are filled with powerful symbols of medieval knights and dragons, and I feel these translate well into the sporting world.

The goal was to create pieces that empower the athletes wearing them, giving them pride and confidence within themselves and as part of Team Wales.

It’s been a great experience working with real industry professionals and hearing direct feedback from the athletes who will be wearing the kits. Thank you to everyone involved, I can’t wait for Glasgow!”

Following the initial announcement of the partnership, 16 students from Cardiff Met’s BA (Hons) Fashion Design degree developed concepts, working closely with Team Wales, Specialist Sports, and the Athletes Commission. Designs were submitted earlier this year, with Jake selected as the winner.

Jake has since worked alongside Specialist Sports to refine and finalise the designs ahead of production, ensuring the collection balances comfort, functionality and visual identity for Team Wales athletes and staff.

The newly unveiled kit combines heritage-inspired storytelling with modern performance design, and will be worn by Team Wales athletes throughout the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Rebecca Edwards-Symmons, Chief Executive of Team Wales, said:
“We are incredibly proud to unveil this kit, which truly captures the spirit and identity of Wales. Jake’s design stood out for its strong storytelling and bold visual impact, and it has been fantastic to see it develop from concept to final product.

This collaboration continues to demonstrate the strength of our partnership with Cardiff Met and Specialist Sports, while giving talented young designers a platform to shine on an international stage.”

The Team Wales kit will make its official debut at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer, with athletes first receiving their kit at the official kitting out event from 6–8 July ahead of the Games, which start on the 23rd July.
