Journey Across the Commonwealth
The King’s Baton Relay marks the beginning of a new chapter in Commonwealth sporting history. For the first time, the Baton was launched under the reign of King Charles III, continuing a tradition that unites nations through sport, culture, and shared values.

The King’s Baton Relay is a powerful tradition that unites the Commonwealth, fostering excitement and connection in the lead-up to Glasgow 2026. The Baton Relay will take 500 days, the longest in the history of the Commonwealth Games, and will travel across all 74 nations and territories, uniting stories, cultures, and communities, whilst building momentum towards the 23rd Games.
The Baton’s journey began in Cardiff in 1958 with the Queen’s Baton Relay, marking the start of a cherished tradition. From the beginning, it featured a timeless, classic design, simple, sustainable, and free from modern complexities, focusing on elegance and environmental care.
As part of its commitment to sustainability, the King’s Baton Relay is proudly aligned with the Ocean Plastics Campaign. In a collective effort to raise awareness about ocean pollution, the Baton is made using eco-friendly materials, reducing plastic waste and highlighting the importance of protecting our oceans. This reflects the shared responsibility across the Commonwealth for us all to unite and look after the environment, ensuring a cleaner, greener future.
For the first time in history, every Commonwealth nation and territory will receive their own Baton. Each nation will customise and decorate the Baton, making it a true reflection of their identity and heritage. At the Opening Ceremony of Glasgow 2026, the 74 Batons will reunite in a moment of breathtaking unity. The Scotland Baton will be handed to His Majesty, and with the reading of its message, the Games will officially be declared open.
On Monday, 10 March 2025, as Commonwealth Day was celebrated, the 18th official Commonwealth Games Relay began its journey, launching with the inspiring theme ‘More in Common.’ Focused on unity and shared values, the theme celebrates how sport has the potential to bring people together, overcome differences, and foster collaboration across the diverse communities of the Commonwealth. As the Baton makes its way through nations, it will carry the spirit of connection that the Games aim to inspire.
The Baton will travel through all Commonwealth nations, spending five days in each and as the journey progresses, the route will be available to track below:
The King’s Baton Relay will make its way to Wales on June 19th until June 24th 2026, 34 days until the opening ceremony of the Glasgow 2026 Games. The Baton will travel through Welsh communities, towns and villages, offering a unique opportunity to celebrate Welsh identity and heritage.
