Queen’s Baton Relay begins in Wales TOMORROW!

The Queen’s Baton Relay begins its 5-day journey across Wales tomorrow morning

Arriving in Holyhead at 8am, the QBR begins Day 1 with an RNLI lifeboat trip and multi-sport activities in the town, before moving on to Bethesda at 1pm where it will engage with 3 local schools: Ysgol Llanllechid, Ysgol Dyffyn Ogwen and Ysgol Penybryn. The baton will then move on to Beddgelert at 3pm, and end the day at Portmeirion from 5:30pm with Derek Brockway as batonbearer.

Day 2 begins with the baton arriving in Tywyn at 8:45am, visiting the local school and racing the train for one stop on the way to the village of Abergynolwyn. The baton will then arrive in Aberystwyth at 1:15pm, where it will be carried by baton bearer and current Commonwealth Lawn Bowls athlete, Anwen Butten, to visit two local schools and Aberystwyth Lawn Bowls club. The final stop of the day will be the Vale of Rheidol Railway, after which the baton will depart by train at 3:45pm.

The baton will explore the heart of West Wales on Day 3, arriving in Pembrokeshire at 8:15am, for a trip to Castell Henllys Iron Age Village, an at-sea relay with the Sea scouts, and a row over to Goodwick beach, Fishguard. Arriving in Carmarthenshire at 2pm, the baton will visit local schools and ski down a local dry ski slope, before cycling down to the beach to meet a lifeboat at Burry Port. Moving on to Lllanelli, batonbearer Jaz Joyce, Olympic and Commonwealth rugby 7’s star will visit Onesta, the sustainable production company supplying the Team Wales leggings, and then travel to Tinopolis TV studios for the baton to appear live on S4C’s ‘Heno’ to end the day.

Day 4 is a jam-packed day for the baton, kicking off at 9am in Baglan at the Hydrogen Centre, before arriving in Margam at 11am. At 1pm, the baton arrives in Aberfan, moving onto Merthyr at 2:45pm for sports activities, then up to the Zip World Tower in Rhigos at 4pm for zip wiring before finishing the day in Clydach Vale at 5:10pm.

The final day of the QBR’s journey involves an 8:30am start at Newport stadium for some athletics, before arriving at Cardiff’s Victoria Park at 10:55am for beach volleyball and a stroll through the park. Moving on to Swansea at 2pm for the airshow and a walk down the promenade and beach, the Welsh leg of the QBR will end at the Civic Centre with Carol Vorderman and BBC Radio Wales.
