Today marks a powerful milestone on the road to the Commonwealth Games 2026 — just 100 days until Team Wales arrives in Glasgow, ready to compete with pride, passion, and purpose.
From 23 July to 2 August 2026, the world will gather once again as athletes from across the 74 Commonwealth nations compete across a dynamic programme of sports, including a record breaking Para sport programme, reinforcing the Games’ commitment to inclusivity and excellence.
Team Wales holds a unique place in Commonwealth Games history — proudly competing in every edition since the inaugural Games in 1930. That legacy continues in Glasgow, carried forward by a new generation of athletes inspired by those who came before them.
To mark 100 days to go, Team Wales begins its Glasgow campaign in a distinctly Welsh way — through story, symbol, and spirit.
At the heart of this moment is a specially commissioned poem by acclaimed poet Aneirin Karadog, titled ‘The Dreaming Dragon’ and brought to life in both Welsh and English by actor and singer Huw Euron.
The poem centres on one enduring symbol — the dragon — a force of identity, resilience, and fire that connects every Welsh athlete to their roots and to each other.
This poem also follows the official reveal of Gwen, Team Wales’ dragon mascot for Glasgow 2026 — a vibrant embodiment of the team’s spirit, strength, and national pride.
Team Wales Chef de Mission Gethin Jones said:
“With 100 days to go, the excitement is truly building. This is a special moment for Team Wales — a chance to reflect on our incredible history in the Commonwealth Games and look ahead to what promises to be an inspiring and unforgettable campaign in Glasgow.
The launch of our campaign through poetry and performance captures the very essence of what it means to represent Wales — passion, culture, and pride. We cannot wait to see our athletes bring that spirit to the world stage, and I can’t wait to be in the centre of it all helping to support the team over the 10 days of competition”
The journey continues over the next couple of months, with the Team Wales set to announce the athletes in June, marking another major milestone. The announcement will coincide with the first day of the King’s Baton Relay in Wales, as the nation begins to rally behind its athletes.
At the core of this campaign lies a powerful message — one that will echo through every arena, pool, and track in Glasgow:
I am the dragon that draws fire from our fables,
I’ll turn the tables and feel its strength flash
through my muscles…
My Wales wills me on,
my world awaits my success,
my dragon-heart dared to dream
and now my time has come.
From Ynys Môn to Caerdydd, from grassroots to the global stage, Team Wales carries the hopes of a nation — united by heritage, driven by ambition, and powered by the dragon.
With 100 days to go, the countdown is on.
