Ashleigh Barnikel

Ashleigh represents Wales in the under 48kg category and is originally from Pembrokeshire, growing up in the village of Hundleton. She has practised judo since the age of four, initially coached by her parents, before transitioning to the Welsh Judo Association pathway at around twelve or thirteen years old and beginning her competitive journey.
Her highest achievements to date include representing Wales at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and winning a silver medal at the European University Games. Over the years, she has continued to develop as a competitive senior athlete, building experience at national and international level.
Ashleigh’s favourite technique is drop seoi nage, reflecting her attacking style on the mat. Outside of judo, she enjoys Pilates and CrossFit, as well as exploring new coffee spots. A fun fact about Ashleigh is that she has flown a plane solo, and she claims a hidden talent of being able to tie a knot in strawberry laces using her tongue.
