Cycling

The day kicked off with the Women’s 4000m Team Pursuit at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, with Megan Barker, Anna Morris, Ciara Oliva and Jess Roberts placing third in qualification to make the bronze race, where they saw off England brilliantly to claim the medal.

The Men’s team was also in action, placing fourth in their Men’s 4000m Team Pursuit qualification to progress to the bronze race, where they just missed out on the podium at the hands of New Zealand.

Starting off the afternoon session for Team Wales were James Ball and Matthew Rotherham who wasted no time in securing their country’s first Cycling medal of the Games. Posting a time of 01:00:546, the pair earned Silver in the Men’s Tandem B 1000m Time Trial.

Hopefully no one blinked as the Women’s Team Sprint team took to the track for the qualifiers in the morning session. The trio of Emma Finucane, Lowri Thomas and Rhian Edmunds were lightning quick as the qualified for the gold match in first position, setting a new Commonwealth Games record in the process with 46.972. Incredibly, they repeated the feat later in the day, racing a 46.760 to beat England to Gold.

Bowls

Dan Salmon and Ross Owen lined up together once more at the SEC in their Men’s Pairs Section A campaign. Suffering a 2-1 defeat on Day 6, the pair had to dig deep to come back from a set down and win a tight match via tie-break.

Amy Williams featured later in the day, facing Zambia’s Mildred Mkandawir in Section C, continuing her winning run with a dominant 2-0 victory.

Athletics

Over at Scotstoun Stadium, Ava Lloyd and Melissa Courtney-Bryant placed third and 15th respectively in the Women’s Mile heats, with Lloyd setting a new PB of 04.31.41 as she made the final.

Charlotte Henrich was back on the track in the early afternoon, to place second in her heat and eighth overall in the Women’s 400m semi-finals, qualifying for the final.

Just Davies was up in the Men’s 800m semi-finals but, despite a season’s best time, just missed out on qualification to the final.

Weightlifting

It was the Men’s +110kg category in the Armadillo in the evening of Day 7, with James Wales stepping up to the platform for Team Wales and putting on a great show for an electric crowd; with a monstrous total of 336kg, Wales finished fourth.

Netball

Team Wales rounded off Pool B against a Jamaica team that had won three of its four games already, eventually losing 24-78, a result that will see them take part in the 9th-10th classification fixture.
