CEO Announcement
Commonwealth Games Wales is pleased to announce the appointment of Rebecca Edwards-Symmons as the organisation’s new CEO.
Following the retirement of Chris Jenkins after Birmingham 2022, Rebecca will join the organisation on December 5th.
Helen Phillips Chair of the Board said ‘’The board are delighted to welcome Rebecca to join Commonwealth Games Wales at such a pivotal time for the organisation. As we embark on creating a new strategy that will continue to focus on giving our athletes, support teams and National Governing Bodies the best opportunities and experiences at a Commonwealth Games. We also intend to look outwardly to see how we can extend our commercial reach, our position as a major player of Sport in Wales, the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth.
Rebecca’s knowledge and experience of supporting a team, evolving a robust strategy, and extensive collaboration across a variety of sectors are attributes which are complimented by an engaging and passionate character that will continue to enthuse our work, staff and member organisations.’’
As a recent graduate from the CEO of a Sports Organisation programme with VSI Executive Education, Rebecca will arrive with a wealth of commercial, marketing, digital transformation, change management and leadership experience.
Following the retirement of Chris Jenkins after 17 years at the helm, Rebecca will lead Commonwealth Games Wales into a further process of transition which will also see several current board members coming to the end of their term during the next cycle.
Rebecca said: “I can’t wait to lead our country into a very exciting cycle planning for a Youth Commonwealth Games next summer, and the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Australia.
“I am very fortunate to have a highly skilled board and fantastic staff to support me and I am really look forward to building on Chris’ amazing tenure. To follow such a leader is very special and I can’t wait to start my journey.”
