Steffan Lloyd

Steffan Lloyd is a Welsh track cyclist from Llandysul and a Paralympic champion para track pilot. Alongside his success piloting in tandem B events, Steffan is also an accomplished track cyclist in his own right.
Born in Carmarthen and raised in Wales, Steffan grew up with ambitions of playing rugby for Wales, but was inspired to take up cycling after watching the sport on television. Taster sessions at the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome in Newport, helped spark his interest and he soon became hooked on the speed, freedom and challenge of riding a bike.
Steffan represented Wales at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, competing as pilot to Alex Pope in the Men’s Tandem B 1,000m Time Trial. That experience marked an important milestone in his Welsh cycling career and helped build the platform for the success that followed at Paralympic and World Championship level.
As a para track pilot, Steffan has developed a successful partnership with fellow Welsh rider James Ball. On their World Championship debut together in 2022, the pair won Mixed B Team Sprint gold, Men’s B 1km Time Trial silver and Men’s B Sprint bronze. The following year, they added another World Championship silver in the Men’s B 1km Time Trial at the home World Championships in Glasgow.
At the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Steffan made his Paralympic debut as pilot to James in the Men’s B 1,000m Time Trial. The pair produced a superb ride in the final to win gold, securing their first Paralympic title together.
Since Paris, Steffan and James have continued to build on that success. At the 2025 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, they won gold in both the Men’s B 1km Time Trial and Men’s B Sprint, as well as bronze in the Mixed B Team Sprint alongside Lizzi Jordan and Danni Khan.
