Team Wales announce star ambassadors

With less than forty days to go until Team Wales competes in the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Australia, the team have announced two celebrity ambassadors.

Becky James, double Olympic silver medallist and former Welsh track cyclist joins Christian Malcolm, retired Welsh athlete and current para coach, as official ambassadors for Team Wales.

Ahead of the Team Wales official send off event, which is being held at the Principality Stadium on March 1st St David’s Day, the ambassadors hope to inspire and share their wealth of experience with the 200+ team.

Becky James said:

“It’s an honour to be part of Team Wales this Games. I missed out on Glasgow in 2014 and so I’m thrilled to be able to support the team this time around. There’s nothing quite like a Commonwealth Games and I’m sure all of the athletes are very excited and nervous at the prospect of competing in a months’ time. My advice would be to focus, prepare as you usually would but above all- enjoy it.”

Christian Malcolm said:

“Representing Wales is such a special opportunity and I’m so proud to be able to support Team Wales- not only as a coach but also as an ambassador. If my experience has taught me anything, it’s about enjoying the moment and believing in yourself. Wearing the dragon on your shirt is an unforgettable occasion- it’s about being one team and inspiring our nation back home.”

The Games begin on the 4th April in Gold Coast and finish on the 15th. Follow Team Wales on social media for all the latest news.
