Team Wales celebrates ‘3 years to go’ until #Birmingham2022
3 ways Team Wales are preparing for the 2022 Games already
Believe it or not, preparations for Birmingham 2022 started the minute Team Wales landed back in the UK after Gold Coast 2018! With a team of athletes, officials and HQ staff to cater for, the team is already working hard with partners to organise and plan things like facilities, accommodation and logistics.
1. We’ve visited Birmingham already… a few times!
We regularly attend meetings in Birmingham to explore facility and accommodation options for our team. The beauty of the 2022 Games is that it’s on our doorstep so we’re taking full advantage of that and heading up whenever we can! It’s great to work closely with the #Birmingham2022 organising committee and other home nations.
We’re already recruiting some exciting positions in our team and closer to the time, we’ll be able to share more exciting Team Wales news!
2. We’ve appointed the Birmingham 2022 Team Wales Athlete’s Commission and we’re excited to work with our partners
Our Athletes Commission is vital to ensuring we’re accurately representing athletes. Catering for their needs and fully prepared when it comes to the Games. The star-studded members of our Athletes Commission act as the voice of our athletes and report into our senior Team Wales team regularly. Over the next three years, they’ll be helping us make important decisions when it comes to #Birmingham2022.

We’re also delighted to be able to continue our partnership with University of South Wales to introduce a new athlete support programme as well as recently announcing our new partnership with Urdd Gobaith Cymru…
3. We’re started a brand-new school engagement programme to help ‘Ysbrydoli Cymru’
Team Wales athletes are ambitious, proud to compete for their country and always inspiring. That’s why, in the run up to Birmingham 2022, we’ve introduced a dedicated school programme where you can apply to have a Team Wales athlete visit your school, inspire your pupils and run a practical workshop.
Future generations are important to us and sport has massive benefits to everyone- it’s what makes Team Wales. That’s why we want to help inspire young people across Wales to be active and to discover sport in a way that suits them.
