CGW welcomes news that Birmingham is to host 2022 Games
Commonwealth Games Wales have welcomed the news that Birmingham is to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Helen Phillips, Chair of the CGW Board said: “We are extremely happy to hear that Birmingham has been officially announced as the 2022 host city. We have been very vocal in our support for an England bid since Durban had to pull out earlier this year.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with Team England and UK Government on the build up to the Games being awarded, and we wish them the very best for a successful Games. We now look forward to continue working with Commonwealth Games England to deliver an excellent event for all.
“Team Wales had a particularly successful Games in Glasgow in 2014, and in partnership with National Governing Bodies and Sport Wales we will aim to do even better in the 2022 home Games in Birmingham.
“In the meantime, our focus remains firmly on next year’s Games in Gold Coast and making sure that everything is in place to make sure our athletes perform at their very best.”
