Frankie Jones joins Commonwealth Games Wales Board as Athlete Advisor

Commonwealth Games Wales is pleased to announce that former rhythmic gymnast, David Dixon Award winner and six-time medal winner in Glasgow, Frankie Jones, has been appointed the Athlete Advisor to the new board.

The Commonwealth Games Board through an open process invited all Commonwealth Games sports to nominate an athlete for the Team Wales athlete’s commission. The board then elected an athlete to be an advisor to them until Gold Coast 2018.

Helen Phillips, Commonwealth Games Wales Chair said:

“The board are focussed on providing the very best performance environment at each Commonwealth and Youth Games. A high performing athlete vision of what that looks like is an essential voice on our board. From clothing, culture, code of conduct”s and inspirational ideas to aid an athlete’s experience is essential in our planning. It is our intention to do everything we can to enable an athlete to excel when competing for Wales”

Frankie Jones said:

“I am proud and honoured to casino online be appointed the Athletes Advisor to the Commonwealth Games Wales Board. During my competitive career I have had the honour of representing Wales at three consecutive games and I can honestly say they are the competitions that hold the strongest and most amazing memories of my 18 years of participation in gymnastics.


Being Athletes Advisor will allow me to continue to inspire younger athletes to follow in my footsteps, overcome adversity and win for Wales.”


Frankie led the way in the medal haul for Team Wales in Glasgow, pushing the team to a record breaking 36-medal position. Team Wales were also recently crowned Team of the Year by BBC Wales’ Sport Awards 2014.
