Day 4 Highlights
Team Wales continues to showcase youth talent across the Islands
Team Wales were in action across all 4 sports for the final time, with Women’s Rugby Sevens finish their campaign with a double win against Trinidad and Tobago, 66-0 and 50-0 respectively, finishing 5th overall at the Shaw Park Recreational Field in Tobago. Whilst they had a tough start, their acclimatisation to the extreme heat, together with their skill and close team ethos showed their resilience as they entered their final games of the tournament.
Over in Trinidad, the swimmers had a successful day returning with two medals; Tyler Melbourne-Smith won his 400m freestyle heat comfortably, and repeated his position once again in the final, topping the podium with a time of 3:54.19. Tyler’s teammate Joshua O-Brien finished 6th in the heat.
Talented youngsters Theodora Taylor and Mabli Collyer made the 100m Breaststroke Final, finishing second and 5th respectively. Theodora won her silver in a time of 1:10.39. Mabli, who won her heat, finished in 5th in a time of 1:11.36.
Other finalists included Max Anderson in the 100m Breaststroke in 5th, and Holly Marshal 7th in the 200m Backstroke. Mabli Collyer finished 4th in the 100m Butterfly heat, and Solomon Williams 5th in the Men’s 100m Butterfly.
Day 4 Swimming competition ended with the Mixed 4 x 100 Freestyle Relay, with the Welsh swimmers finishing 5th in the Final with a time of 3:39.07.
It was the first day of Track Cycling at the National Cycling Velodrome, and Sam Fisher secured Wales’ first track medal, getting through to the Final of the 3000m Individual Pursuit tomorrow with a time of 3:25.553. Team mate Max Bufton won his race in 3:28.033 but missed out on a spot in the medal finals. Also on the track, Will Salter came 4th in the Sprint, in a time of 11.002.
There was also action at the Hasley Crawford Stadium, with impressive performances from youngster Storm Evans, finishing in a solid 4th position in the Discus with a throw of 40.75m. Joseph Rees-Gara got through to the 1500m Final, and finished 8th in a time of 3:55.05.
The action continues tomorrow on Day 5, starting with the swimming heats at the Aquatics Centre, and the finals will close the day’s competition. It will be another busy day at the Athletics Stadium and we enter the second day at the Velodrome.
