Athletics
Athletics at Birmingham 2022 will comprise a packed programme of events with 59 medal events, including a fully integrated Para Sport programme. Athletics has featured in every edition of the Commonwealth Games dating back to 1930. Since then, Team Wales have tallied up a total of 54 medals across all events. 1986 was Wales’ most successful Games on the track, bringing home eight medals which included a double gold from Kirsty Wade in the 800m and 1500m.
2006 saw Wales pick up their first para athletics medal through Beverley Jones, who sprinted to third in the T37 100m. Welsh para-athletes have seen themselves on the podium at every Games since, and this year includes more para-events than ever. Paralympic Champion Aled Sion-Davies returns for the first time since 2014, in hopes of turning his silver into a gold. Team Wales have named a 23-person strong team ready to go at the Alexander Stadium.
