Team Wales New Non-Executive Directors Announced

In preparation for #B2022 games, Team Wales has appointed two new non-executive directors, who will help strategically lead the organisation in its decision making, supporting our collective desire to see Team Wales thrive.

Our board members help give strategic direction to the organisation through overall policy setting, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance. As well as ensuring the financial stability and safeguarding the good name of the organisation.

“They both bring with them a wealth of knowledge and expertise from both an athlete’s perspective, in their professional work capacity and life experiences. We felt it’s the right time to bring in new board members alongside a very experience board as part of our long-established succession strategy. Their passion to drive forward sport in Wales will be invaluable to us. Meet our new faces:

Ashton Hewitt

Ashton currently plays professional rugby for regional team, the Newport Dragons, where he made his professional debut at the age of 17 after progressing through the academy system. Alongside his rugby career, Ashton has completed a degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice and Youth Justice, followed by a Masters in Human Resource Management. Having competed in a range of sports before his rugby career, Ashton has a keen interest in a wide range of sports which he hopes to translated into his contributions to the Team. With a passion for equality and fairness, Ashton is looking forward to being involved with the Commonwealth Games Wales team to achieve success at the 2022 games.

Anna Stembridge

Anna has over 25 years worth of experience competing and working in the high-performance environment, as a former two-time CWG and World Cup international Welsh netball athlete, and a former England squad coach. With this background, as well as having held many leadership and strategic positions within elite organisations, Anna provides a unique and authentic insight into the demands of performance sport, alongside a solid understanding of what it takes to achieve success at this level. Anna is passionate about developing people, especially women in sport and inclusion and diversity, with previous involvement in several initiatives in this area.

“I am absolutely delighted to be appointed a member of the CW Wales board. What an honour to be part of a team which has done some amazing work over the last couple of cycles and holds such bold aspirations for the future. To be led by such a transformational leader in Helen Phillips and to work with such a great team is a real privilege, and one which I am very excited about. I genuinely can’t wait to get working with this team in the new year!” – Anna Stembridge
