WE’VE BEEN HANGING OUT IN BIRMINGHAM!

How is planning coming along for #B2022? Let’s find out…

Early September, we were invited to Birmingham for crucial updates on the Games and to check out some of the incredible progress that’s been made over the summer.

Meeting with the wider #B2022 team, our 3-day trip to the West Midlands included a site recce to Alexander Stadium- home of the opening and closing ceremonies; lots of session planning and updates where we met with familiar faces across the Commonwealth, and even a meet and greet with Birmingham’s official mascot, Perry the Bull!

During the pandemic, our preparations have had to be done remotely, therefore having the opportunity to visit the villages and venues first-hand has undoubtedly made us even more excited for next summer’s games.

Representing Commonwealth Games Wales was our #B2022 Chef de Mission, Nicki Phillips OBE; CEO, Chris Jenkins; and Head of Engagement, Cathy Williams.

About the visit, Nicki Phillips said:

“We’ve had a very productive few days here in Birmingham. We’re so lucky to have been able to have gone round as a team and join some of the other countries as they visit the venues.

“It’s great that we have online meetings and that we can see everyone via video, but it’s great we’re now able to go and walk around the sites. It’s so beneficial because it allows us to picture what the Games is going to look like next summer.

“It’s going to come round all too fast, and we’re really excited about what’s going to happen next year. You can see all of the incredible work that the Birmingham team have done to get it ready.”
