Welsh weightlifters secure Team Wales place for 2018 Commonwealth Games

12 Welsh weightlifters have secured a place on Team Wales at next year’s Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, it was announced today.

Commonwealth Games Wales have revealed the names of the six males and six females who will be competing across weightlifting events at the 2018 Games.

Competing in the men’s categories will be: Seth Casidsid (56kg), Gareth Evans (69kg), Harry Misangyi (85kg), Joshua Parry (94kg), Jordan Sakkas (105kg) and Rhodri West (+105kg).

The women weightlifters heading to the Gold Coast are: Hannah Powell (48kg), Catrin Jones (53kg), Christie Williams (58kg), Faye Pittman (69kg), Laura Hughes (75kg) and Tayla Howe (90kg).

Helen Phillips, Chair of the Commonwealth Games Wales Board said: “Congratulations to all of the weightlifters who have qualified andbeen selected to represent Team Wales at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

“Being chosen for Team Wales is testament to the athletes’ commitment, passion and dedication also to the excellent support of their coaches, families and national governing bodies. We wish them all the very best with their training for the Gold Coast.”

Simon Roach, Sports Manager of Weightlifting Wales said “I am delighted to see such a strong team selected for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The athletes have worked exceptionally hard to achieve selection. They are extremely proud to have the opportunity to represent their country in this forthcoming Games. I wish them every success in their final preparation and at Gold Coast.”
