Athletics
Athletics has been an integral part of the Games since the launch of the Empire Games in 1930. It is a core sport and therefore must be included in the sporting programme of each Commonwealth Games. Athletics has a number of events that include running, jumping, walking and throwing. Welsh Athletics has over 9,000 registered athletes and more the 95 clubs across the Country. Team Wales won 5 medals in the Gold Coast, equalling their best-ever medal tally, 3 of which were in para events.
Beverley Jones won the first para-athletics medal for Wales in 2006.
