DAN CLEMENTS JOINS TEAM WALES AS GENERAL TEAM MANAGER

27th Jul 2021

Our Team Wales support network continues to grow ahead of the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, with Dan Clements appointed as General Team Manager.

The role of the General Team Manager is to work with the CEO and Games Senior Management Team to create the optimum environment, supporting athletes and encouraging a positive team culture. This is an exciting role within the support team and will see Dan join the other senior management in the planning and delivery of games preparations, whilst ensuring all athletes and sports are feeling prepared and confident in the lead up and throughout the Games.

Dan Clements graduated from Cardiff Metropolitan University with a doctorate in Coaching and Talent Development. He has vast experience within the Sports sector, with a background in Elite Coaching and High Performance. Dan has previously worked for organisations such as Wales Rugby League as Head of Performance and International Coach. He has also previously worked for Hockey Wales as Head of Performance and is currently the Performance Coach Manager for Wales Rugby Union. His current role sees him act as both a mentor and coach and leads the elite coaching strategy for Wales. Dan has experience of working with Team Wales in previous years, joining the wider support team at both the 2014 Glasgow and 2018 Gold Coast Games.

On his appointment, Dan Clements said:

“It’s a privilege to be joining Team Wales for the 2022 games in Birmingham. There is something very special about representing Team Wales at the Commonwealth Games and I am extremely proud to be able to play a small part in such a landmark event for our country’s top athletes.”

Chris Jenkins, CEO at Commonwealth Games Wales said:

“We are very excited to have Dan join us for another Commonwealth Games, this time at Birmingham, supporting all sports at the Games. Dan’s  performance knowledge and experience will be invaluable in supporting athletes and coaches, and he will be an incredible asset to the team. Dan’s appointment is just one of many recent additions as we build the senior management of Team Wales, a dedicated group of talented and hard-working, determined individuals who will provide support for the Welsh team in  Birmingham. We can’t wait to have Dan start work with us and look forward to welcoming him back for another Games.”
