200 days to go until Trinbago 2023
To mark the occasion, Commonwealth Games Wales Board have announced the search for the next Team Wales Athletes Commission to ensure the voice of the athlete is at the forefront of key decisions made ahead of Trinbago 2023 and Victoria 2026.
The Commonwealth Youth Games will be held this summer after it was postponed in 2021 due to the pandemic. The excitement is quickly building as athletes across the country are preparing for their first taste of the Commonwealth Games.
Trinidad and Tobago will host the Games for the first time in history from August 4th until August 11th for athletes aged 14 – 18. The seven sports in the programme are Fast5 Netball, Rugby Sevens, Triathlon, Swimming, Beach Volleyball, Cycling (Track and Road) and Athletics.
Para Athletics will be the first sport ever to be part of the Commonwealth Youth Games programme with three disciplines included in the event – Discus, Long Jump and the 100m.
The Athletes Commission will be an appointed forum that will guide Commonwealth Games Wales on all matters impacting on Team Wales athletes during Games time.
The Commission will be a diverse and representative group of athletes past and present who have represented Wales at a Commonwealth Games.
Once the nomination deadlines closes (February 10th 2023), the process will involve a selection panel consisting of CGW Board, staff and independent individuals to work through the nomination applications, interview the short list, and the successful athletes will be announced in March.
