On Tuesday 5th September, the Queen’s Baton Relay began its tour of Wales, arriving by RNLI lifeboat at Knab Rock, Swansea. This event brought together many former and upcoming sports men and women of Swansea, including Enzo Maccarinelli, Josh Griffiths, Ryan Jones, Anne Ellis OBE and Kimberly Mpukusa.
After departing Swansea, the Baton visited CGW’s official partner CGI in Bridgend for a private event. It was run between all 3 offices by CGI employees before concluding at the Waterton Offices with the First Minister, Carwyn Jones. The next event took place on Barry Island promenade with local primary school children and some high profile Batonbearers including Lucy Owen and Hannah Mills MBE.
Day 1 concluded in Cardiff Bay and Butetown; it was brought into Mermaid Quay on the Princess Katharine boat to be greeted by the Mayor of Cardiff. The event concluded at Butetown Community Centre where members of the community came together to celebrate the Baton’s arrival.
