Who is Commonwealth Games Wales?

We are the independent body that selects, prepares and delivers the Welsh team at the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games. Commonwealth Games Wales also represents Wales within the Commonwealth Games Federation.

Who governs Commonwealth Games Wales?

Commonwealth Games Wales is governed by a Board of non-executive directors elected by our member sports. 

What sports are there at the Commonwealth Games?

The sports programme is slightly different for each Commonwealth Games.  There are 10 core sports whose disciplines that are compulsory and the host country selects additional sports from an optional list. The next Games is in Gold Coast, Australia and the sports programme can be found here

Is there a Para Commonwealth Games?

The para sports are included in the Games: this is very popular with the athletes rather than having a separate event. In Gold Coast there will be 7 para sports.

Who selects the team?

Commonwealth Games Wales selects the team that represents Wales at the Games. Each of the member sports' national governing bodies nominates athletes based on performance criteria agreed between the sport and Commonwealth Games Wales and then Commonwealth Games Wales selects the best athletes to represent Wales.

How is Commonwealth Games Wales funded?

Commonwealth Games Wales is part funded by the Welsh Government through Sport Wales and a commercial programme of partners and sponsors. Without this support Commonwealth Games Wales could not participate in the Games. 

Where is Commonwealth Games Wales based?

Commonwealth Games Wales is based in Glyntaf near Pontypridd on the campus of one of our partner, University of South Wales. In addition we have an office for meetings at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff, which is also our registered office.
